EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Zeynep Erdogan

Turkish designer Zeynep Erdogan commercial success both in Turkey and Europe. It all started when Zeynep won ITKIB award in 2001; and traveled to Milan to study at Domus Academy. While she was living in Milan, she started her career by designing new and innovative pieces from vintage clothes. Those creations got commercial success after numerous concept stores stocked them. Her first collection was shown during Milan's Fashion Week in 2006. In 2012, she is stocked at Dolce and Gabbana's concept store Spiga 2 in Milan. Her designs are romantic and girly yet edgy. You can not watch any Turkish show or movie without finding one of her designs worn by top actresses. 

I am truly honored to have interviewed such a talented and beautiful designer...

F:When did you know that fashion was apart of your life? 

Z:In early high school, my interest has started with a great passion for illustration.

F:What did you study and did it help you as a designer? 

Z:I studied fine arts and textile at university in Istanbul and made master in fashion at Domus Academy Milan, and yes it helped me especially Domus but of course it is not enough.

F:What inspires you?

Z:Some visual illusions and vintage stuff.

F:5 years from now, what do you want your line to be known for? 

Z:For my style and quality. 

     
F:Your designs are both romantic and edgy at the same time, how do balance that? 

Z:Thank you it is such a nice compliment.. It actually comes by itself it does not have a kind of rule..

F:Each collection you have a theme, what is the theme of you latest collection and who or what was your muse? 

Z:Muses are the pieces them selves , for example in the last collection S/S 2013 the theme is illusion , it comes from the pieces that looks as if the buttons are stitched on your body.
 
F:Who are your favorite designers?
Z:Celine, Martin Margiela, Miu Miu, Stella Mccartney

F:What are your favorite cities? (list your favorite restaurants and shopping spots in each city) 

Z:Berlin – MİTTE
Milan- TİCİNESE
ISTANBUL- BEYOGLU
 

F:What do you like do in your spare time? 

Z:Walkıng around like a tourist in my home town, there is so much to see in this town; and read comics.


F:List 3 items that are always present in your bag? 

Z:Sun glasses, wet towels and pet food (for street animals).


F:I know that your line is available through your website (from Personal experience), but when will you stock in Dubai, Doha, Kuwait, or Riyadh? 

Z: We've been stocked in Kuwait for 2 years, and by the new season we will also be in Riyadh, Qatar,Jeddah, and Beirut.
